Biography

As Executive Chair, Jeremy Cox has overall responsibility for all supervisory activities conducted by the BMA, including the supervision of banks, trust companies, investment businesses and insurance companies, as well as chairing the BMA’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Cox joined the BMA in 2002, serving as Executive Director and Supervisor of Insurance, where he was responsible for the overall supervision of Bermuda’s insurance market. In 2008 he was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive Officer, where he transitioned into the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 January 2010. In 2019, Mr. Cox was appointed to his current role as Executive Chair.

Prior to joining the Authority, Mr. Cox began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co., Bermuda as a Staff and then Senior Auditor. In 1993, he began working as an Insurance Division Technical Officer for the Bermuda Government’s Registrar of Companies Department. From this role, Mr. Cox was promoted to Inspector of Companies and, subsequently, Registrar, where he was responsible for providing technical support to the Minister of Finance on all insurance-related matters.

Mr. Cox graduated Cum Laude from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Insurance in 1989 and earned his designation as a Certified Public Accountant in 1995. In 2019, Mr. Cox was awarded the Fred Reiss Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Bermuda’s insurance industry and other financial services sectors.
