The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority and BMA) has been made aware of a fraudulent document being included in targeted social media messages. The fraudulent document, a “Certificate of Converting”, has misappropriated the name and logo of the Authority as a watermark, and unlawfully falsified the approval of the Authority’s Executive Chair. This document appears to be part of an advance fee fraud in which the sender is requesting a conversion fee to be paid in advance of receiving any prize winnings. The Authority advises the public that falsified approvals, and the misuse of corporate names or logos are all red flags for fraud. Furthermore, persons who engage with this entity, or any of its representatives, do so at their own risk.
