Biography

Meet Eron, a Graduate Trainee in the Corporate Affairs Department. We interviewed him to learn more about his reasons for giving back to the community. Take a moment to read his story.

Please provide the name of the initiative cause and how long have you been involved?

I have been a part of the community group ‘Bermuda Is Love’ since its formation in August 2020. It comprises a group of like-minded friends discussing the various social, economic and environmental challenges we wanted to address in Bermuda.

Why did you choose to support it?

As a Bermudian, I believe this cause chose me; I did not choose it. The group believes that in order for us to operate, we must be all on the same page and decide on a guiding principle: love. The meaning of ‘Bermuda Is Love’ is to love Bermuda, care for others and be kind and selfless; this is what it means to be Bermudian.

'Bermuda is Love' seeks to transform the hearts and minds of every Bermudian by allowing individuals to cultivate a virtuous character by volunteering at community events and actively loving their community.

Every event we organise aims to build a more empathetic, selfless person and community.

Our goal is to change the culture from a society that takes pleasure in material wealth, greed and competition to one that values selflessness, community and cooperation and recognises our duty to love one another.

Overall, what is the charitable organisation’s mission and how does it make a difference to the people/cause it aims to help?

'Bermuda Is Love' is an organisation driven by a profound mission: to create a Bermuda where everyone’s basic needs are met and guaranteed. This mission is rooted in the belief that meeting basic needs is not a matter of charity but a human right. It envisions a Bermuda where the community collectively recognises and acts upon the duty to care for and love one another, fostering an environment where compassion and mutual respect are the foundations of society.

To actualise this vision, 'Bermuda Is Love' has outlined a strategic approach that consists of three pivotal steps: building community, raising awareness and advocating for systemic change. By nurturing a strong sense of community, the organisation aims to create a supportive network that uplifts every individual.

The events it hosts are central to the organisation’s efforts; each is designed to address and support the fulfilment of basic human rights. These include the right to food, housing, clothing, health care, education, access to justice and a healthy environment. By focusing on these rights, 'Bermuda Is Love' underscores the universal entitlement to basic needs and champions the cause of creating a more equitable and compassionate Bermuda.

Through its dedicated work, 'Bermuda Is Love' embodies the principle that meeting basic needs is the foundation for a thriving community.

What is your specific contribution to the initiative/cause and how have you made an impact to the people/cause it aims to help?

Each group member is dedicated to a specific human right and sits on a respective working group; I am on the Education and Food Working Groups. 'Bermuda Is Love' has been fortunate to assist four students through our scholarship programme for higher education, two students in 2022 and two in 2023.

How does your charitable involvement align with the BMA’s core values?

We care for Bermuda by hosting events that target the community’s basic needs.

We engage with the community and collaborate with other organisations on charitable initiatives.

We learn from the community and create events that it needs so we can better serve it.

We create opportunities for individuals to show their love for the community and ways to improve themselves.

We aim for sustainable success by advocating for everyone’s basic needs to be met. No one can be the best version of themselves if their basic needs are not met.

We hold ourselves accountable because we believe, as Bermudians, that we all have a duty to ensure everyone’s basic needs are met.
